College Counseling

College Counseling
At Seton Catholic, college counseling is a personalized, four-year journey designed to help every student discover their strengths, explore future possibilities, and confidently navigate the college admissions process.
Beginning in 9th grade, students use the college and career planning platform Naviance to begin building resumes, completing career interest inventories, and tracking community service experiences. As students progress through high school, they receive ongoing support through college exploration, campus visits, application guidance, scholarship resources, and individualized planning meetings.
Our college counseling program combines both individual and group guidance to ensure students and families feel informed and supported throughout the process. Students receive access to a comprehensive College Counseling Handbook, grade-level timelines and checklists, and monthly college planning newsletters during their junior and senior years.
College Exploration Opportunities
Seton Catholic is proud to host the Pacific Northwest Jesuit Excellence Tour (PNWJET), a regional college fair featuring Jesuit colleges and universities from across the country. Each spring, students in grades 9–11 have the opportunity to connect directly with admissions representatives from institutions such as Gonzaga University, Seattle University, Santa Clara University, University of San Francisco, Loyola Marymount University, Marquette University, and many others.
These opportunities allow students to explore a wide range of academic programs, campus communities, and pathways for life after Seton Catholic.
Preparing for College Admission
Students planning to apply to four-year colleges and universities are encouraged to complete a rigorous college preparatory curriculum during high school. General admission guidelines for many in-state universities include:
- 4 years of English
- 3 years of Mathematics (Algebra and above)
- 3 years of Social Studies
- 2 years of Lab Science (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
- 2 years of World Language
- 1 year of Fine, Visual, or Performing Arts
Students are encouraged to pursue coursework beyond these minimum requirements in order to strengthen their college applications and better prepare for the academic expectations of higher education. Colleges and universities also value students who continue to challenge themselves academically during their senior year.
Because admission requirements may vary by institution, students are encouraged to work closely with their counselor and review specific university admission criteria throughout the college search process.
