Satinee Mendez

I grew up in a loving Catholic family where I was involved in CYO and singing in my church choir. There was no Catholic school in the little town of Conrad, MT where I grew up, but I always felt a strong need to be at the church, often as a teen I would attend daily mass before school to start the day off right. While attending Carroll College in Helena, MT, I easily continued the ritual of attending daily mass and singing with a little guitar group on Sundays in the St. Charles Chapel at Carroll. I currently attend St. John the Evangelist in Vancouver, where I sing with two of the Sunday morning groups on alternate Sundays.

I went to college to be an actress and a singer.  It was in my first year that I had to take statistics and was introduced to my first female mathematics teacher. She honed in on my talent and asked me to correct student homework for my work-study program.  I loved helping students with their learning and found myself writing all along the margins of their homework to “help” them.  I had found my calling … or rather God had gently guided me in the right direction.

While raising 3 boys, I was a high school and college teacher in Montana for 30 years. I retired and worked in various medical fields for several years, but God had other plans for me.  I had teaching in my heart and a strong push from God to come back so I moved to this area in 2016 and continued my work in the dental field long enough to find the right place for my faith. I love being a part of the Seton Family!

Besides singing, I love to play racquetball, going to baseball games, watching football  (I am the commissioner of my girl’s only Fantasy Football league) and hanging out with my family and friends.  My favorite movie is The Sound of Music and my favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird.  I love watching reruns of I Love Lucy and The Andy Griffith Show.
