so much of my growing and Tails looking back turn on the water I know what's behind me but I've no idea what's in front of me I think that's almost a metaphor for life because we don't know what lies ahead we don't know what struggles and problems were going to face but if we live in intentionally trusting the people around us I think we'll have a great path and we'll achieve the success we wanted my name is Carey Price and I'll be a senior here at the end I started rowing in December 2020 during my sophomore during this time all or sports or shut down due to covid and I just missed being on a team and working out with people but excited to try something new I started was December it was cold 6 a.m. practices so it was a little hard and when I first started everybody around me obviously knew out a row and so they were faster and they're better than a little discouraging at first but I think not and not being a pastor when I was kind of like lettuce park inside of me and I was like I want to do that and so every time I got up I was like I'm going to I'm going to get better today I remember the first time we sat down as you. data which is normal time for oils and if the test on the rowing machine we hold to be in evaluator speed compared to the rest in between the first time I sat down and did one I had a sub 8 Minute 2K by the time I had no idea that was fast or not but then my teammates and my coaches were like that's good like that can get you recruited it was the first time I'd ever done a text to Kay test it was pretty encouraging kind of doubtful at first if that be true true play down the water but then I remember getting meddling in my first regionals and I was like okay like I can do that and so this summer I was invited to selection Camp down in Chula Vista which is better, San Diego 70 athletes in the country and you can pee to be honest team for Team USA and I was selected at cannabis which is in London Ontario and erase the Canada Mexico and the Bahamas and I got to represent growing in Ultimate Team Sport if one person your vote isn't working for their full potential you're not going to win I think it's taught me that without your teammates you can achieve and you learn to trust your teammates and lean on them because at the end of the day like you're pulling for each other and you're working for each other I think what motivates me is knowing that there's always someone looking up to you but I was younger there was II several models in my life and I work to be a lot like them so I think kind of taking a different path than most people I know there's people looking at me and I just want to be as caring and compassionate and all the aspects of my life annoying. Not just one thing yes I can erase I may not know what's in front of me but I'm ready for the next challenge I'm so grateful to be in for helping me and see what's possible I'm around my sophomore year of high school in town for the animals when I realized that I like writing a lot and that I could do something with it and you know I wasn't just throwing salt on a verb thought they were pulling on a piece of paper in Android it to in the end of my sophomore year we did our final project which is the time that day and I was super nervous going into that but I finished it and I did well on it and I kind of realize that maybe this isn't a bad and then my junior year was my first AP English class and I really enjoyed that class I learned a lot and during my junior also have the opportunity to submit an essay for the government to essay contest University Portland and not contest Catholic High School juniors across several Western States you all get the same prompt you respond to it the most creative unique but you can and I personally wrote about my experiences with my grandfather and the Grand Canyon and my memories with him moments of my life my childhood and it's all really enjoyed that update and it's one of my favorite thing is overwritten and for me I think it just was more proof that I I had something with Friday and I could go somewhere with it my name is Reed Memorial I'm going to be a senior here at Seton Catholic this fall and this past summer I had an awesome opportunity to spend 12 days in New York City studying school of New York time which focuses on journalism but you know different African and at the summer camp I studied human rights as a particular aspects of Journalism and how journalists approach that we learned a lot about the United Nations and other non-governmental organizations that help individuals of all backgrounds across the world you had opportunities to pick our own issues that we have learned about around the world I personally wrote about freedom of expression in Belarus I did a report on that is my final project and it was a really great experience to be surrounded with people with similar in and be able to bounce ideas off each other and learn about each other story as well and where they came from and their perspective I'm super excited to see where calls takes me in the next 4 years after my senior year and to see how my writing skills developed but I'm even more grateful for the past I've had here this evening and I want to thank everyone who has helped build community my name is Jocelyn. let me see this year at the Catholic I always trying to follow the Golden Rule which is a secant although. Then I said I looked a mess. It's almost didn't care you still stressing us that it Matthew first step after tomorrow he says do unto others as you would have them do unto you afraid I adore and follow in my daily life I have on schedule for many organizations including st. Vincent de Paul as long as an organization called homeless connect this nonprofit is particularly meaningful to me because before I really saw myself make a difference they hold an event every December for this is that it can come and get a haircut get medical like having their teeth cleaned picked up food and hygiene kit and also have a warm meal it's here that I saw the true beauty of serving others Mount Saint Vincent de Paul my drive has come to see if it's been amazing to serve that Community right alongside my classmate Ian is not just a school for me it's family it's a second home if possible to see my classmates serving we all have food on the table but we see how life can be difficult and how I can change the instant it makes me hopeful to see so many people help when it's needed my parents worked really hard for me to attend Seton Catholic my mother told me to work hard because she's also working really hard outside at work my brother and I are both first generation college student and graduating is really important for me because it is a play that I can thank my parents and all the hard work that they've done for their whole life my mother always says to me stupid for that yes it's possible and I want to thank everyone who made it possible for me
